OEE Software

Hellebrekers helps clients gain insight into the efficiency of their production machines and lines with our unique Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) application. This OEE application is one of the separate modules of the Visual Link MES software package.

When a malfunction occurs, operators must be able to record it and indicate what caused it if a company is to accurately analyse why certain losses occur frequently and how they can be avoided. With our OEE software, operators gain important insights that can be put to use to systematically improve the production process.

Because OEE is a practical tool for operators and management, it is a good first step towards optimising the production process. OEE identifies losses and compares the productivity of manufacturing equipment. OEE revolves around the ratio between the number of sound products returned by a production machine or line and the maximum achievable. OEE is calculated as a percentage and is based on at least the following factors:

  • machine availability (actual production time / potential production time);
  • machine performance (actual output/expected output);
  • product quality (sound products / actual output).

A maximum OEE score of 100% means, among other things, that the equipment only makes sound products and does so as quickly as possible and without stopping. This is, of course, the ideal situation; in reality, an OEE of 80 to 85% is excellent.

OEE Software

In order to obtain an OEE score for each individual production line, Hellebrekers has developed a generic OEE application, which goes above and beyond standard OEE applications. Rather than examining efficiency alone, it also monitors Line Performance Indicators (LPIs), which are linked to, among other things, malfunction reports. The moment the system detects a standstill, the operator is quickly presented with a loss line that must be validated or justified. Because we keep a record of all malfunctions, the system can give an accurate indication of what is going on.

Many sources of wastage that affect OEE cannot be traced with a standard OEE application. Our Hellebrekers OEE software keeps a record of all anomalies detected in (field layer) machines, as well as of the cause of each efficiency loss. Data is collected on how effectively the process is running, how is being product and how much is lost, how the previous production shift performed, what the machine settings are, what malfunctions or stops have occurred, and so on. This provides management with insight into where interventions are required and what needs to be done to safeguard or increase the efficiency of the process. This insight allows for highly detailed cost analysis (cost deployment) and, by reducing costs and increasing output, improve sefficiency.

The added value that Hellebrekers offers its clients is a reliable and carefree implementation process. We excel at building custom OEE solutions, and our application is capable of making customer-specific OEE calculations, among other things. The final OEE system will only be implemented after all data collected in the pilot are validated and the system has been perfectly configured. Once the implementation is complete, we stay in close contact with customers to discuss the progress of the OEE project, define action points and familiarise employees with the OEE system.
